Traditional Chinese Medicine
_Traditional
Chinese Medicine (TCM) is comprised of several therapies which work
together to create wellness and balance in the body. This is a list of
the main components of TCM, all of which are used regularly at the Clinic.
Acupuncture
Acupuncture
Acupuncture is without doubt the most recognised branch of TCM. Over the last several decades here in the western world acupuncture has built a strong, and growing respect among people who use it regularly. It is considered to be both a relaxing and enjoyable experience and one that can achieve great results. Acupuncture is recognised and validated by the WHO (World Health Organisation) in the treatment of a wide variety of ailments.
Acupuncture works by inserting fine needles into acupuncture points to influence the flow of Chi (pron. 'Chee') throughout the body.

Tuina Therapy
Tuina Therapy
WHAT IS TUINA?
Tuina (pronounced "Twee-Na") is a type of therapeutic massage. Tuina is the most tried and tested massage therapy in the world, treating over 1 million people each year in a hospital setting in China. It's history is thousands of years old and it has developed into a highly successful and modern system of medicine. It is one of the pillars of Chinese Medicine and is often used in combination with other branches of chinese medicine like acupuncture or chinese herbal medicine. That said, Tuina excels as a therapy in it's own right. It is used in all the major hospitals in China where it is so effective that it is classed as a distinct medical system in it's own right.
In China Tuina is used to treat conditions which would usually be treated here by osteopaths, chiropractors, physiotherapists and even western drugs.
WHAT CAN TUINA TREAT?
Tuina can be used in a variety of situations, anything from a general massage to treatment for sports injuries. It is particularly useful in treating pain conditions...
•Neck pain and Frozen Shoulder •Headache / Migraine
•Low energy / Poor circulation •Digestive Disorders
•Back pain / Sciatica •Rheumatism / Arthritis
•Joint pain / Limited Movement •Ankle or Wrist pain
•Sports injuries •Stress / Anxiety
•Insomnia •Gynaecological Problems
WHAT CAN I EXPECT FROM A TUINA TREATMENT?
One of the biggest advantages Tuina has over other therapies is that a Tuina patient is usually treated while fully clothed. A Tuina practitioner uses a combination of hand techniques, manipulation and mobilisation of joints, muscles, tendons and ligaments to align the musculo-skeletal system, to treat pain and encourage the flow of Chi (pron. 'Chee') and Blood in the body.
Among it's many other benefits, Tuina often brings a sense of wellbeing after a treatment and this can have profound psychological effects. This is one reason why people who try Tuina, often find it becomes their treatment of choice.

Cupping
Cupping
Cupping is the practice of applying a vacum glass, plastic or bamboo cup to areas of the body to release muscle spasm, encourage blood flow through local tissue, remove toxins and to stimulate the body's lymphatic system. Cupping is often used in conjunction with acupuncture or Tuina.
A suction vacum is created in the cup by burning or through the use of suction cups and this allows the cup to fix in place on the skin.

Moxibustion
Moxibustion is the application of heat to various parts of the body through the burning of herbs know as Moxa. Moxibustion can be used in combination with acupuncture or on it's own. It is used to treat cold and damp conditions by warming the channels. Moxabustion is a highly valuable therapy in Chinese Medicine and the healing properties of this herb are still being discovered by modern science.
